Day 24 - Tuesday 24/10/2006

Well, our final day in Aswan nearly over. Nick C, Mick and Rachel went climbing sand dunes and looking at temples while I had a quiet morning ending up at the Old Cateract Hotel (Death on the Nile hotel) and decided to splash out on lunch. We have just finished checking the Bikes fuel, oil etc ready for tomorrow. Apparently we have to be at the port by 10am which is a bout 15kms away. I would imagine we then wait for hours while the paper work is completed to get us and the bikes out of Egypt.

We are both now looking forward to next part although contact maybe sporadic until we get to Khartoum. Not a lot else happening.
Why aren’t my children writing Blogs????

Anyway, we will be in touch.

Cheers Nick G

Aswan is getting very frustrating. Everyone is a bit tetchy hanging about with nothing to do. The bike plates are gone so we can't ride very far. The hotel management decided to drain the swimming pool and we think they are fed up of us too. NC tried to do some sketching and painting but the hassles from the locals is becoming a real nuisance. We rode the bikes along the Corniche - T-shirts & shorts, wind in our combined lack of hair but can you believe it, even on the bikes the Fellucca owners were jumping out in front of us trying to sell us boat trips. Shame they weren't going to Sudan! We have a very long day ahead of us on Wednesday. Got to be at the port by 10.a.m. even though the boat doesn't leave until "late in the afternoon" - whatever that means. Then it's farewell to Egypt at last and after a 17 hour boat trip it's hello Sudan and whatever that might bring. Inshallah! We will be in touch whenever signal allows. Thanks to everyone for all your support. Keep the comments rolling in. We will read them whenever we can. Probably next time in Khartoum.

Bye Bye for now

Two Scarey Bikers & friends

Good luck with the boat ride to Wadi Halfa. Have plenty of patience at the Sudan border. Now your off road skill will be tested to the limit. Just follow the track in the sand -all tracks lead to |Khartoum -eventually! We miss your emails and phone calls now. But we will keep sending you texts about the Blues (v Leicester on Sunday) and the progress of the Bluebirds. Happy Riding

Two things - how *do* you ride a bike without a saddle? And, howcome no-one told me about the wolves? Ant's gone to Millfield, Wills is off to Holly's today and Robs is having a lovely time being wined and dined in Chelt. How's the food so far? Found anything you like? Weather's freezing at the mo - 4° this morning. Hope things go well for you on the next leg!

Nick C

Congrats on your blogs which are really funny, intelligent and amusing.

Tell us more about your co-riders Mick & Rachel, where are they from and are they headed to Cape Town.

(Echoing Lindy) How are you riding without a saddle and what does she mean about 'wolves'?

It's going to be amazing seeing all the photos you took from visitng and viewing all the interesting places en route - nice to hear someone's embracing the journey and different cultures.

And I hope you make a load of money for the charity that helped your family, it's quite admirable the commitment you are devoting to repaying their work.

Keep up the interesting stuff and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Re. wolves.for those who have questioned their mention...I had a very quick phone call Friday evening from Nick G.. (contents of which I passed on to Ant) from the satalite phone saying, they had made it into the Sudan...not wishing to spoil the blog that will appear tomorrow... ended by saying that they were in the desert CAMPING...yes camping!!!and they could hear the calling of wolves, which somewhat unnerved Nick C... as it was pitch black and they couldnt see where they were, more to come in updated blog tomorrow ...watch this space.. but they are having a rough time of it..
